Expert Asphalt R&R Services
When asphalt pavement reaches the end of its service life — or when localized damage threatens the integrity of your parking lot, roadway, or driveway — removal and replacement is the most effective long-term solution. NPG Asphalt has been performing precision asphalt R&R work across Southern California since 1961, and our experienced crews handle projects of every size and complexity.
Asphalt removal and replacement involves cutting out the damaged or deteriorated sections, removing the failed material, preparing the base, and installing fresh asphalt to restore the pavement to like-new condition. When done correctly, R&R work eliminates the root cause of the problem rather than simply covering it up.
When Does Your Asphalt Need R&R?
Alligator Cracking
Interconnected cracks that resemble the skin of an alligator indicate structural failure in the asphalt or base layers. Sealcoating and crack filling won't fix this — the damaged sections need to be removed and rebuilt.
Potholes & Base Failures
Potholes are a sign that the pavement structure has failed, often due to water infiltration, poor drainage, or insufficient base material. Patching provides a temporary fix, but removal and replacement addresses the underlying problem.
Severe Rutting & Depression
Heavy traffic can cause ruts and depressions in asphalt surfaces, particularly in areas where trucks turn or park. When the deformation is significant, R&R restores proper grade and drainage.
Utility Cuts & Trenching
After utility work, the affected pavement sections need to be properly restored. NPG provides clean saw cuts, proper base compaction, and quality asphalt replacement to restore the surface seamlessly.
Our R&R Process
Saw Cutting: We use precision saw cutting equipment to create clean, straight edges around the areas to be removed. Clean cuts ensure a tight bond between the new asphalt and the existing pavement, preventing future cracking at the seams.
Removal & Demolition: Our crews remove the failed asphalt and, when necessary, the compromised base material beneath it. We handle all hauling and disposal of removed materials.
Base Preparation: Before new asphalt goes down, we ensure the base is properly graded, compacted, and meets the specified thickness requirements. A solid base is the foundation of pavement that lasts.
Asphalt Placement & Compaction: We install new hot-mix asphalt to the specified thickness, then compact it to the required density using our late-model roller equipment. The result is a smooth, durable surface that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding pavement.
